Abstract

Candi Keboireng, Pasuruan, East Java which was excavated in 2020, showed many new things that can be observed, especially the discovery of kala ornaments whose depiction is unique to Candi Keboireng. Through a discussion of the architectural and decorative aspects of Candi Keboireng and its comparison with other temples, this paper aims to see the architectural and artistic characteristics of the temple and its relation to the periodization of temples in Indonesia. The research method used in this paper is descriptive analysis with an emphasis on the comparison of architectural forms and decorative arts in temples. The results of the research show that Candi Keboireng is a model of Hindu-Siwa temple building with architectural characteristics and decorative arts that have similarities with temples from the East Java period. Specifically, the decorative depiction of Candi Keboireng gives a hint that the temple dates back to the 13th century AD during the Singasari Kingdom.
